A place mat designed by Takashi Murakami and given as a gift at the 2007 gala opening of the artist’s new exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles
Guests attending the opening dinner—who paid $1,000 to $10,000 for a seat at the table—were allowed to take home the round fiberglass mats featuring blooming happy-face flowers at their seat. Some of the guests had theirs signed and drawn on by the artist. This is one of the rare pieces from the gala.
